Dr. (Kevin) Kewu Hu

30+ Year Experience in Practice, Research and Teaching


Dr. (Kevin) Kewu Hu graduated from a TCM university in Wuhan in 1986, his hometown, with a bachelor’s degree in TCM. 


Dr. Hu was employed immediately by a great public hospital and started receiving further training in Western medicine and practicing his acupuncture and Chinese medicine at different units of internal medicine. 


During the eight year in the hospital, he soon grew up from a complete novice doctor to a senior doctor of integrated Chinese and Western medicine. He treated thousands of walk-in and hospitalized patients by means of herbs, acupuncture or/and Western medicines.


Did not satisfied by his professional establishment, he went to one of five best TCM universities in China, seeking further training in clinical and laboratory research on TCM and catching chances to learn from best acupuncturists and herbalists in the university and its affiliated hospitals. 


Dr. Hu was employed by the university after he received his master degree and doctor degree (PhD ) and was responsible for training international students coming to China for best acupuncture training. He also assisted in mentoring graduate students from China and other countries. 


Dr. Hu move to Canada in 2004 and immediately started to teaching at TCM schools in Victoria. He was passionately passing his own experience and knowledge to his students and also passing experience and knowledge of the best acupuncturists and herbalists in central and southern China.

 

Dr. Hu is a very good guitar player and loves travelling. He speaks Mandarin and English fluently and speaks Cantonese pretty good. He is humble and humorous.

Dr. (Kevin) Kewu Hu moved his clinic from Saanich to Victoria and shifted he working priority from classroom teaching and clinical training back to his practice of traditional Chinese medicine. 



2007 to 2017

Dr. Hu was the first instructor with a background of  working experience in China and traditional Chinese medicine education in China. He taught almost all courses related to traditional Chinese medicine as he taught in his previous school. He also taught lots of courses directly related disease treated with acupuncture, like genecology,  dermatology, traumatology, TCM classics, etc.


He clinically trained students' acupuncture and herbal practice. 


Dr. Hu was the first instructor teaching herbs of traditional Chinese medicine there, he taught all courses related Chinese medicines. First student passed the very difficult herbalist board exam from CTCMA in her first try.  Many of his talented students are now teaching at the school and became the school's backbone. 

 

He also had his own practice with a chiropractor and at home in Saanich. 


2004 to 2007

Dr. Hu taught almost all basic to advanced courses of traditional Chinese medicine,  e.g.,  foundation, diagnosis, Materia Medica, formula, internal medicine, genecology, dermatology, TCM modern research, understanding Chinese herbs within Western medicine pharmacology, TCM classics, etc.  His students are now successfully practicing in difference cities in Canada and USA



2000 to 2004


Guangzhou University of traditional Chinese medicine   (China) ,  associate professor, registered TCM doctor


His was mainly responsible to give clinic and in-classroom training to international students who came to Guangzhou from different Asian countries, Europe, Africa, North America, South America and Oceania. They were looking for the best acupuncture and herbal training in China. He also treated walk-in patients mainly with Chinese medicines and sometime with Western medications.  


Dr. Hu published many research papers related to his  traditional Chinese medicine research in the period of  1994 to 2000. He also co-wrote many traditional Chinese medicine books. Some books are used as textbooks in Canada.   


He assisted in mentoring Chinese graduates and PhD students from a traditional Chinese medicine college Chicago, USA. 


Dr. Hu often helped organizing and attended  traditional Chinese medicine  seminar held at the university. Many top TCM master professor recognized professionals cross China were invited, it included Deng Tiantao (邓铁涛),Ren Jixue (任继学) , Lu Zhizheng (路志正), Jia Shude (焦树德). By these rare chances, he further enriched his TCM knowledge and improved his clinical skills by learning from these masters. 



1986 to 1994

Dr. Hu accumulated 90% of his clinical experience in this stage of his career. He was firstly trained in different internal medicine units  and then he spent most years in traditional Chinese medicine  unit. He was responsible to gave TCM treatment to help medical doctors when their treatment result could not be satisfied. He grew from a junior doctor to a senior doctor. He treated thousands of in-hospital and walk-in patients with various kinds of diseases. He clinically trained under graduated university students. 


Dr. Hu was good at making diagnosis in TCM and Western medicine perspectives.  He chose one or two or three ways among Western medication, Chinese medicine and acupuncture to treat his patients. He usually used Western medications to treat a disease in a critical or very severe stage, and then followed by Chinese herbs, and then then followed by acupuncture. He also combined two or three when necessary for the best benefit of his patients.

Dr. hu did clinical and laboratory research on treatment with Chinese medicine on Cardiovascular diseases. He clinically trained undergraduate students and students majoring both traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine. He also clinically trained many master-degree students including his classmates who was newly graduated and had no independent practice experience.


He was a co-author of several academic books on traditional Chinese medicine in both Chinese and English language. 


1981 to 1986


Hubei University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Doctor of Chinese medicine (DTCM)


Dr. Hu graduated from the Wuhan's Second High School, one of five best high school in Wuhan, now ranks #1,  and successfully passed Chinese National University Entrance Exam, only 1 out of 16 could passed the exam in 1981. All university students were granted full scholarship in that year.
