Yin def:
General: emaciation, lusterless face, dry mouth, irritability, insomnia, dry stool, yellow scanty urine;
Severe: steaming bone, dry cough, flushed face, spermatorrhea, sore lower back;

六味地黄丸
Shu di huang 24 g —- replenish KI yin
Shan zhu yu 12 g —- sour, warm, replenish KI/LV yin
Shanyao 12g —- replenish KI and tonify SP
(Three for replenishing)
Ze xie 9 g —- clear the turbid in KI (+ Shudihuang)
Mu dan pi 9 g —- clear LV fire (+ Shanzhuyu)
Fu ling 9 g —- clear damp in SP (+ shanyao)
(Three for reducing)
Note: The amounts of “three tonics” are larger than the “three reducing herbs”
Method Used: The herbs are ground into powder and mixed with honey to make pills.
Functions: To replenish Yin in the liver and kidneys.
Indications: Yin deficiency of the liver and kidneys.
Soreness and weakness in the lumbar region and knees, blurred vision and dizziness, tinnitis and deafness, dry mouth and thirst, toothache and sore throat, afternoon fever, feverish sensation on the palms, soles and in the chest, night sweating, nocturnal emissions, red tongue with scanty coating, thready and rapid pulse

Decoction to Replenish Yin of the Liver and Kidneys
一贯煎
Sheng di huang 30 g —- Nourish yin and blood, nourish LV/KI
Mai men dong 10 g, Sha shen 10 g, Dang gui 10 g, Gou qi zi 12 g —- Nourish yin and blood, sooth LV
Chuanlianzi 5g —- Shuxie (sooth) LV qi
Method Used: The herbs are cooked with water by decoction.
Functions: To replenish Yin and promote function of the liver in dispersing and descending.
Indications: Yin deficiency of the liver and kidneys, as well as Qi stagnation of the liver. (and disharmony between LV and ST)
Pain in the chest and hypochondria, bearing down sensation of the lower abdomen and testes, epigastric pain, bitter taste in the mouth, acid regurgitation, dry mouth/ throat, red tongue with little and dry coating, thready and wiry or thready and weak pulse

dysuria, profuse, clear urine, nocturnal enuresis, incontinence of urine, edema,
impotence, premature ejaculation,
cough and asthma, shortness of breath, palpitation,
thirst, drinking a lot of water,
pale, flabby tongue with white coating, deep, thready and forceless pulse.
Applications: Diabetes, chronic nephritis, neurasthenia, impotence, edema and chronic bronchitis.
